How did we get in so much credit card debt?
Starting in 1981, the American consumer embraced an unsustainable model of living based on over-consumption and a spending frenzy that eventually culminated in nearly $1 trillion in credit card debt by 2008. This consumerism behavior was fostered and made possible by a crafty enemy: credit cards.
You see, credit card companies discovered that people can easily become addicted to buying things on credit. Additionally, credit card companies rightly guessed that as long as the monthly payment on credit card debt was set low, that people would continue charging more stuff, piling on more debt. The higher the credit card debt balance, the larger the profits would be for the industry, and the more difficult it becomes for the consumer to get out of debt.
Meanwhile, consumers would break their backs to pay back their credit card debts, as a matter of pride. The only problem was and still is, is that the credit card industry engineered the credit card loans in such a way that it would take decades for a consumer to get out of debt. For example, if a consumer has a $14,000 credit card balance and pays $432 each month towards toward this debt, it will take 32 years to completely payoff the balance, assuming an interest rate of 25%. In the interim, the consumer forks over $28,000 in profits to the credit card company, through the interest payments.
With such profits, credit card companies started pushing credit cards on people, just like a drug dealer would push drugs on unsuspecting kids on a school yard. Once consumers got a taste of credit, they became hooked. Once hooked on credit, consumers would become financial slaves to the credit card industry for life. Along the way, the industry would exploit these consumers and fleece them of their cash, leaving most debtors in poverty in the end. (This topic is discussed in detail in my book).

P.P.S. Did you know that Donald Trump, one of the world's richest men, was $900 million in debt in 1991 and on the verge of personal bankruptcy? The effects of a recent recession left Trump unable to meet loan payments on his vast real-estate empire. Yet, he did not throw in the towel. He was not going to let his debt be the end of him. He was coming back whatever it cost him, and boy did he. Trump confronted his debts and through debt negotiation reduced the balance owed to the banks. He then re-emerged debt free. Today, Donald Trump is again the image of financial success. When it comes to your personal debt, you need to take the same attitude as Donald Trump. Like Donald Trump, you need to fight your way out of debt. You need to confront the debt. You can't avoid it because it isn't going away. Confront your debts with my book, apply the principles within, and in six months, you will re-emerged out of credit card debt.
